Laser Hair Therapy: Phase 1 Week 2

I have to be perfectly honest ......

I suck at taking my nutritional supplements everyday and using the Minoxidil . The nutritional supplements are supposed to be taken twice a day with food. Because I have irregular eating habits I tend to forget. And I should mention that I really don't like taking pills, I forget to take them or push it off till later.

I am a little better with the  Minoxidil. That's supposed to be applied to the scalp twice a day (morning and night). Life as a hairstylist is like that song by Marsha Ambrosius "Late Nights and Early Mornings"....I'm beat when I get in the house, I dive head first into my pillow and snooze the shit out of my alarm in the mornings....lol I forget about the Minoxidil.

But I did do my laser treatments this week and I shampooed my hair with the products once this week (not twice as recommenced)

I will do better for week 3 with my home products. If anybody has suggestions on being more diligent with taking my nutritional supplements please share below or on my facebook page The C.Wright Beauty Experience

Name: Chinere Wright

Age: 32

 African American Female

My hair loss history:

These are my areas of concern.

1. Left Side Hairline and Temple
2. Right Side Hairline and Temple
3. Center Crown
4. Front View

Sitting with my feet up ,listening to soft
music . Stress free- Cell phone free zone

This is my first treatment. I slept for the 30 minute session. My head was dipping like a babble- head doll. Very relaxing.

MaryAnn is setting the 30 min time
on the machine for the session

I can not see anything with the eye wear on.
You can see the Laser Lights in this pic

I could feel when the machine was on and I could feel when the machine went off. It did not burn, feel warm or sting but I could feel activity in my scalp which was the blood circulating.

I will start using the products next week.

Laser Hair Therapy EXPLAINED

Laser Treatment for Hair Loss

A relatively new addition to the tools that some trichologists use to combat hair loss is laser treatment. Here are some facts about this effective method.

Low Level Laser therapy as a Medical Treatment

Low-level laser light therapy (LLLLT) is a form of physical medicine. Physical medicine uses stimulation therapy to activate the body's natural defense mechanisms, ie. through bio-stimulation.

What is Laser "Radiation"?

The name LASER is short for Light Amplification by Stimulation Emission of Radiation. Laser light and devices are sometimes referred to as laser emitting, laser producing, laser radiation, etc. This terminology is confusing. There is NO radiation in the sense we normally refer to as radiation. Lasers produce light highin energy, nothing else (even sunlight is a type of radiation). No radioactivity or dangerous energy is produced. Radiation with laser does not imply that your head will get fried! The last light is used as a 'cold light'.

Is Laser Hair Care Safe?

The type of lasers used by trichologists is non-surgical therapeutic lasers. Some trichologists use the most powerful laser that is safe for cosmetic purposes (and which complies with international laser safety standards). Laser Hair Care is approved for cosmetic use in the EEC and US as a Certified Class 3A laser by the Food and Drug Administration, which has the most rigid standards in the world and fully complies with Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act. the energy produced by the photons does not have the thermal componet that causes injuries to users or operators. Laser light energy does not alter molecular structures, it stimulates the body's mechanism to repair and heal itself.

Benefits of Laser Therapy

  • Increases scalp blood flow and follicle microcirculation by 20% to 30%.
  • Increases nutrient supply to enhance hair growth
  • Stimulates and accelerates hair growth.
  • Reduces excess levels of skin 5-alpha reductase and dihydrotestestosterone (DHT), the hormones that contribute to genetic thinning.
  • Relieves scalp conditions such as psoriasis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, itchy/scaling scalp due to the laser's anti-inflammatory effects.
  • Reduces excessive sebum production in cases of over activity/scalp greasiness, thus reducing pore clogging and preventing enlarged sebaceous gland formation.
  • Reduces tight, tender scalp.
  • An effective adjunct therapy for pre- and post- hair transplantation procedures.

Female pattern baldness and thinning runs in my family very heavily. My mother, my aunts on my mother's side and even my 2 year old niece has the same hairline pattern. With my being a hair stylist I've done a lot of things to my hair that I would never do for my clients and would scold them for. Relaxing & coloring to frequently, weaving and wearing wigs over the years has contributed to my thinning hairline and crown.

I am going though the same program as my clients. This is a huge commitment for me because I will not be able to wear weaves  during this process...Wigs it is lol....Well, Falls and half wigs (no tension to the hairline.

I will be extremely candid and honest during this process every step of the way. Tones of pictures, videos and reviews.

Follow me though my hair growth journey for healthier, fuller hair.
I work as a wig designer and hair replacement specialist at Maryanne Studios. Located in Wayne, Pa on 205 W. Lancaster Av. (610)687-5700. I will get my laser hair therapy treatments in between my clients. (Wish me luck).

Wig Word Of The Day: Synthetic Hair

Synthetic Hair:

Plastic fibers that are made to resemble hair. It is the cheapest and most versatile material that wigs are made of. Some other names for synthetic wig fibers include modacrylic, kanekelon, and elura.

Synthetic hair is NOT heat resistant. Curling irons and any other heat styling tools should Not be used. And try to stay clear of the oven while baking cause your bangs will singe if you stick your head in to far...fyi

Beauty Launchpad's 5th Annual Halloween Hairstyles Contest Submission

I don't know why but I never submit photos for contest or magazines. Most of the time I find out about the submission deadline to late or I talk myself out of it because I don't think my images are good enough.

Well, I have decided to change and put myself out there.Lay it all out, no matter how uncomfortable it feels. Be judged for my work, take the critics and the praise and apply it all. I have tones of images and video that I've done nothing with because of fear.

Guess What...?!! the bullshit stops here. ...I have been holding myself back in my career. The reason I have NOT made it to the next level is me.

No more doubting my self or my Work, No more procrastination, No more being shy ...Just NO MORE!!

I taking the first step by entering this Beauty Launchpad Halloween Hairstyle Photo Contest. Normally I would have brushed it off and not entered the contest because you have to get friends and family to vote in order to win. I don't know a ton of people or have a lot of friends and family.....soooo the sheer embarrassment of receiving a handful of votes would usually be a huge deterrent for me.

Manolo Blahnik Inspired Wig

The Love of Shoes, Fashion &Wigs Collide !

Tones of fashion magazines in piles of organized confusion in my home. When I need to unwind it's done with a mag and a tall glass of wine. ( My palette is  fond of a blush). I find comfort in folding down pages, scribbling stars and jotting random notes on what ever makes my eyes widen, my heart race and my month water with delight.

Well, this Manolo Blanick boot from a Vogue Magazine did just that. I fell in love with the color and texture and thought how amazing it would be to combine those characteristics into a Custom Wig .

Here is my vision from a Inspiration Story Board to Photo Shoot. Hope you Enjoy my Journey!

THE REVEAL! Old School Wig 4 Lady B Basement Party 3 Concert Pt2

The Reveal!!!

The concert was DOPE! Force MD'S, Biz Markie, Kool Moe Dee, Big Daddy Kane (who stole the show, he did his thang) and the headliners Salt-n-Pepa.
With a old school lineup of hip-hop superstars I just had to pay homage to this fresh-ta-death era by dressing up in some 90's gear.

Check out my accessories:
I pulled out my "Name" earrings and piled on a bunch of gold chains. I had the earrings since my first year of college in 2000. One of the gold chains is a great find from an estate sale 3 summers ago. And of course I had to represent my beauty industry with my blinged out "I do hair" and "I do makeup" plate necklaces from PrissyBliss Jewerlry (check out her site, tones of Cuteness)

Yulp...All 7 letters C-H-I-N-E-R-E

The Makeup: Had to add a little Lip Liner action for the occasion.

The Wig: Stacks & Points

Slouch Socks & Reeboks . The updated version of the "54.11's"
The Alicia Keys Dubble Bubble Reebok Sneaker

I meet another hip-hop Reebok fan at the concert. She was fly in her lime green !

The Outfit: "Hip Saved My Soul" black tee-shirt from Hot Topic and patterned Calvin Klein performance workout tights

I love this Stocking Cap wig.
I have to re-purpose her for Halloween
Check out how I made this wig in Pt1 of this blog post

And then there was the After Party.......

Old School Wig 4 Lady B's Basement Party Live 3 Concert Pt1

I made a wig to wear to this Old School Concert....I'm Gonna be "FUNKY FRESH"!

Basement Party Live 3 Hosted by Lady B Aug 25th | Hot 107.9 Philly

Check out my process.

Supplies used

A custom wig template was used to make this wig for a perfect fit.I use this to build wigs for myself and my clients. I can build custom wigs without my client present when I'm in the mood (which is usually in the middle of the night) because I have their exact measurement. The wig is ready to be cut and styled when they arrive which saves them time and saves me aggravation

List of Tools:
Velvet cork head
Black nylon cap
Quilters pin- preferred over T-pins
Nail nippers for cutting wefts and thread-I never multitask my shears. I have shears for cutting real growing hair, a different set for human hair wigs and extensions, and another set for synthetic hair fibers.
Black bonding glue
Pump it Up Spritz- used to adhere bonding glue quickly.

Old school human hair

Used old school Yaki human hair for this wig. I loved how thick one pack of hair used to be. One pack of hair could be split with a straight blade into two full packs of hair. But the hair companies got hip to the game...started charging more money for less hair.

Brands used are ModelModel, Zury and Harlem
14'' piano streaked human hair layed in the back. 27 piece human hair on the left side for a taper look
All of the hair is layed . Ready to be sectioned to map out the style
Sectioning for back of wig
Section for left side
Front view sectioned off
Right side of wig sectioned for cutting
Chop,Chop,Chop...
Stacks and Angles!

Hard lines and Bold color brings this 90's style wig to life

Stack curls AND Waterfalls ......Yasssssssssssss!!!!!!!

Now I need to get my outfit together!!

Wig Word of the Day: 3/4 Wig

There are many different terms used in wig making and styling. Here's one to get you started :

A type of wig that is meant to sit a few inches back from the wearer's hairline. The front of the wearer's own hair is then brushed back over the front of the wig in order to conceal the edge and make the wig look natural.  3/4 wigs looks great if they are a color match to the wearer's own hair color.

This is what the inside of a 3/4 Wig looks like:

Here are some examples of HORRIBLE 3/4 Wig applications:

Just wrong on so many levels. Wearer needs her hair along the hair line to cover and conceal the wig's hard front . ( and the fact that she looks little worn out doesn't help lol)

Textures DONOT match and the wig is brown and her hair is black.  Color dose not blend well at all
A huge NO NO!. Natural hair is to thin and to short and it DOSE NOT blend AT ALL

The wearer's natural hair should have been set to a tight curl .
The straight dark hair DOSE NOT blend with this curly wig

Now here is a really cute 3/4 Wig. I love this look

This is made with the black headband attached to it.
You can wear your own bangs in the front OR simply add a clip-in bang

This is a 3/4 Wig I made for a photo shoot a few years ago

I'm actually wearing a 3/4 Wig in this pic too

For The Aspiring Wig Makers & Extensionist

Over the past year I'v had quite a bit of wig making inquiries. People want to know how to get started. What supplies they need and what it's used for. Well it can be pretty confusing when it comes to purchasing supplies if you are not familiar with the terminology.

I learned a lot by trail and error. And it doesn't help that I'm a product whore lol, I buy things I don't need all the time just to try it.  Sooo...hopefully I can save you some money, time and energy.

To give you a better understanding into this wacky world of wigs and hair extensions I will share a new Wig Word of the day. Full definition of the terms AND examples

You will be sounding like a Wig Guru in no time!

Once we have all of the terminology down packed we will start talking about educational classes and workshops on wig making. But I can't before that, I don't have the patience to start from scratch in a classroom setting (shrugs...Sorry)

Follow me on Instagram @chinere_wigsnhair and Facebook(Chinere Wright) for the daily Wig Word of the Day. Subscribe to the blog today so you never miss out...I know you don't want to be left out.

Choose The Right Face Shape 4 A More Beautiful U!

Makeup theory and application, hair cutting and styling, plastic surgery, and all facial enhancement techniques have traditionally been taught with one objective in mind: to manipulate hair, makeup, skin, bone, and cartilage so that it appears oval.

The Diamond shaped face has wider cheekbones with a narrow chin and forehead. A diamond-shaped face allows for lots of hairstyle options. Diamond shaped faces need a wig styled with fullness or width in the forehead hairline and the lower cheekbones of the face near the chin. Hair should be styled close to the head at the upper cheekbones where the face is broadest. Bands or a layered fringe will disguise a narrower forehead. The fullness at the jawbone with a style such as a bob or a shoulder length cut with jaunty layering to add some movement will give the illusion of a more oval shaped face. Wig styles that tuck in behind the ears also will work well, in addition to showing off your wonderful cheek bone structure.

The Oblong shaped face has an elongated rectangular shape featuring a long straight cheekline. The wig style you choose should add width to help minimize the vertical length of your face. Look for wig styles that are short to medium in length with longer top layers such as wedges and graduated bob cuts. Chin and shoulder length looks that turn under or flutter out also work very well to add width. Straight across bangs, feathered bangs, or half bangs with side parts soften the forehead. Layered styles in medium and longer lengths with wavy and curly textures will flatter the face and neck while obscuring the straight long lines of an oblong face.

The Heart shaped face has a large and wider forehead, high cheek bones, with sometimes a widow's peak hairline, and a narrow v-shaped chin. To soften the forehead width, look for a wig that allows you to bring some hair across it. Keep the hairstyle closer to the head near the eyes and fuller around the jaw, as well as below and in front of the earlobes where additional width is desired. A chin length bob is great for this type of face shape as it makes the jaw area appear wider and more balanced with the rest of your face. Longer, layered hairstyles also work well.

The Pear shaped face features a distinctly narrow forehead. The cheekbones and jaw line essentially broaden to showcase a wider look, while the chin adopts a rounded shape. With a pear shaped face it is best to look for wigs that will add volume above the jaw line. Layers create fullness on the upper half of the face. Don't be afraid to show your forehead which draws attention upward and away from a full jaw line. If you have bangs, angle them slightly and tuck them behind the ears to frame the jaw line and draw attention upward. Hair on the sides of your head and at the nape are best set and combed in a pattern close to the head since any style too voluminous will add weight to the bottom of the face.

To determine your face shape, look in to a mirror and pull your hair back then compare with these illustrations
